UPS Driver Snaps Adorable Selfies With Dogs He Meets While Delivering Packages
Media has long depicted the trusty mailman and the dog as enemies, with the latter chasing the former out of its home. But that's definitely not the case for UPS driver Jason Hardesty. The New Orleans-based UPS driver takes the time to greet and take selfies with the cute dogs he meets while delivering parcels around the city. What began as a social media post of an unplanned encounter has transformed into one of the most wholesome Instagram accounts out there.
For Hardesty, it all began with the first picture he snapped with a pup, which got over a 100 likes on his personal account. After hearing how that chance encounter uplifted so many people, he tried to post a new dog selfie every Friday. Now, the self-described “easily entertained UPS driver” has now met dozens of dogs, as well as some cats, rabbits, goats, and pigs, which he shares with the hashtag #pupsofjay. “By now everyone on my route knows who I am,” Hardesty tells My Modern Met.
Still, most of his photos come from people simply walking their dogs while he is out working. “I do have people who get very excited to see me when I drive by which makes it difficult because I do have a job to do and I can't take a photo with every dog even though I would love to,” Hardesty confesses.
When asked whether it is easy to get up close with new dogs, he explains that the neighborhood he delivers in now doesn't have many kids, which makes all interactions much smoother. “Other neighborhoods where l've delivered in the past are family-oriented where dogs can be a little protective,” he shares, “but here most dogs are friendly and just want to play.”
For all the dogs he has met over the years, a pair named Oy and Belle have a special place in his heart. “Oy would always run to the door to meet me and get excited to see me, but Belle was more reserved and wouldn't let me close,” Hardesty reminisces. “One week before they moved out of town, Belle finally came and let me pet her as if she knew she wouldn't be seeing me anymore and a little part of her deep down inside would miss me.”
If his cheerful images are any indication, the pups are always as happy to meet Hardesty as he is to meet them. “The thing I love most is I still have never had an issue with any dogs I've taken a photo of, with each one with their own personality,” the beloved UPS driver confesses. “And at the end of the day, doesn't matter the breed, we all just want to be loved and adored.”
